Acupuncture

The ancient art of Acupuncture is around 3000 years old. Today, acupuncture is increasingly popular as a natural, gentle and effective treatment for the management of most symptoms & dis-ease.

The gentle insertion of very fine, single use stainless steel pins into specific acupuncture points, stimulates and energises the body’s own recuperative processes, helping the body restore its own natural balance, enhancing well-being & vitality. Acupuncture reduces stress hormones, calms our nervous system and helps to modulate mood by providing amazing stress relief & emotional support.

The acupuncture needles are left in for 20-45 minutes depending on the condition being treated and patient requirements.

Women’s Health

Acupuncture successfully assists the modern woman through all stages of her hormonal and gynaecological life cycle. From menarche to menopause, puberty to pregnancy and everything in between, the aim of Acupuncture is to bring your body back into (hormonal) balance.

Acupuncture has been used to support women of all ages through a variety of hormonal and gynaecological imbalances including period and ovulation problems, PMS, endometriosis, PCOS. Acupuncture focuses on specific areas that support hormonal health and fertility by using 3000 years old principles of energy and blood movement. Acupuncture promotes circulation and blood flow (to the uterus), modulates pain, and balances hormones to reduce common hormonal issues experienced by so many women today.

As we know, stress and anxiety compound many of the hormonal issues that underpin womens health conditions, and Acupuncture has also been shown to calm the mind and support our happy hormones.

Our expert Acupuncturists have over 30 years combined experience and are incredible educators who will work with you and teach you to better understand your body and hormonal health. We will tailor a treatment plan specifically for you, based on your symptom presentation and where you are at in your hormonal health.

Trying to Conceive

Acupuncture is recommended to help balance out hormones, regulate ovulation & menstrual cycle, enhance egg quality and uterine lining. Acupuncture is also used to regulate our stress hormones to modulate mood and provide amazing relief and emotional support through what can otherwise be an emotionally challenging (and draining) process.

Acupuncture used during IVF/DEIVF at the time of embryo transfer is associated with increased chances of successful implantation, conception and pregnancy outcomes. As we know, IVF / DEIVF is a very stressful time.

Acupuncture may help in the management of stress, helping to calm you and release unwanted tension.

Digestive Health

But how can an Acupuncturist assist with my bloating or constipation you might wonder? Our acupuncturists are extensively trained in the area of gastrointestinal health, inserting tiny needles into specific acupuncture points to move energy and help regulate digestive function.

Stress is often at the heart of digestive complaints. After all, our gut is our second brain and will react to a stressed nervous system by interfering with digestive function. Specific acupuncture points help to regulate the gut-brain axis and decrease the stress response, which in turn improves digestive function.

Dr Miranda and her expert acupuncture team are also Naturopaths and will work with lifestyle, nutritional supplementation & dietary advice to help create a healthy bowel routine.

Is acupuncture safe?

Acupuncture is a very safe treatment.

At Freyja we use very thin, single use, sterile needles (pins, as we like to call them) that are disposed of safely and in accordance with AHPRA regulations. We also sterilise the area prior to needle insertion, thus the risk of infection is extremely low.

At times, because the skin is pierced, the area may bleed and mild bruising may occur.

LEARN MORE

Does acupuncture hurt?

As the skin is pierced, a pricking sensation may be experienced when the needle is initially inserted. At Freyja, we use the best quality, finest needles for minimal discomfort. Following needle insertion, a relaxing, deep, heavy sensation may be experienced.

LEARN MORE

Can I expect any immediate benefits? How long does it take to work?

Immediate benefits are possible for pain relief, and to experience a sense of calm and relaxation.

Ideally, acupuncture should be delivered over a course of treatments, varying depending on the condition.

What is Shonishin – Paediatric Acupuncture

Shonishin is an ancient style of japanese needle-free acupuncture specifically for the littlest members of your family. Rather than the insertion of pins, shonishin involves the utilisation of a hand held metal tool, that with light pressure, gently sweeps over acupressure points and meridians. It is beautifully gentle, relaxing and restorative bringing little babies bodies back into balance.
